Ems Valley

Message from the Chairman on 17.5.24

Hello everyone,

This year will be the first time I've run an Annual General Meeting. It's where we as a committee stand before you and account for our actions in running your u3a and ask for your vote of confidence to carry on for the next year. Under the rules, we need to have a quorum of 52 people present on Thursday 23 May, representing 10 percent of our membership. Do please attend this important event in our calendar - I promise we will strive to make it as brief as possible, I think we should be finished by 2:30pm.

We will then quickly move to our first speaker of the day, a former chairman of ours, Richard Swaine, who has what promises to be a fascinating insight into the Bravest of the Brave, the Combined Ops Pilotage Parties who were based in Hayling Island during World War 2, having been set up in 1943 under the instruction of Lord Mountbatten, and who were instrumental in the D-Day preparations.

My thanks go to Les Pallett's Pilates Group 1 for organising the teas this month.

Once the tea break is over, another former Ems Valley chairman. the inveterate Alan Borrow, will be hosting the Emsworth Quiz. It promises to be quite a packed day, and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday at the Emsworth Baptist Church at 1:45 for 2pm.

As ever, if you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to email me and I'll see what I can do to help.

Best wishes,

Tim
